Largo do Castelo Burgplatz Alcoutim | Castelo de Alcoutim (Neuere Burg): Die heutige Hauptsehenswürdigkeit im Ortskern wurde im 14. Jahrhundert (ca. 1304) unter König D. Dinis zum Schutz der Grenze gegenüber Spanien errichtet. Direkt am Fluss Guadiana, gegenüber der spanischen Burg von Sanlúcar de Guadiana. Im Inneren befindet sich ein archäologisches Museum, das unter anderem eine beeindruckende Sammlung von Brettspielen aus der islamischen Zeit ausstellt. Sie diente jahrhundertelang der Überwachung des Schiffsverkehrs auf dem Fluss. Alcoutim ist eine Kleinstadt und ein Kreis mit 2523 Einwohnern in Portugal, im Distrikt Faro. Sie liegt im äußersten Nordosten der Algarve am hier zu sehenden Grenzfluss Guadiana. Auf der anderen Seite liegt Spanien. - Realized with Pictrs.com
